The Land of Smaerd

Saturday, August 16th, 2008
August 12, 2008toSeptember 12, 2008

Island Museum of Art presents illustrations from “The Land of Smaerd”, a newly published children’s book by authors Angela Russell and Andrea von Botefuhr, painted by San Juan Island artist Bryn Barnard. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, August 15 at 5:00 p.m. Bryn Barnard will be present at the opening for book signing. “The Land of Smaerd” (dreams spelled backwards) is a story about a world where all things are possible; an unlimited realm where dreams, constructed through pure imagination, take shape and unfold as reality. Sisters Angela Russell and Andrea von Botefuhr grew up in the Hawaiian Islands. When Angela was ten, she created “The Land of Smaerd” as a fifth-grade assignment. Years later, Andrea rewrote the story. The sisters now live on Bainbridge Island.
