San Juan Island will once again take on a magical air in December when the “Island Lights” holiday celebration begins. The celebration’s main events occur during the first three week-ends in December. December 2 at 6:00 p.m. is the date and time for the judging of the Friday Harbor Holiday Decorating Contest. Grand prize is $750! Many Friday Harbor shops will remain open until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday nights during the holidays. The Port of Friday Harbor is offering one night’s free moorage to boaters if they show receipts of $100 or more from shopping in town between Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are lots of other holiday activities going on during the month of December: Festival of Trees at the San Juan Community Theatre on the 1st (preview night on November 30), San Juan Historical Museum’s Old Fashioned Holiday Celebration on the 5th, Island Studio’s Open House, Dominique’s Clothing Holiday Open House, waterworks gallery Holiday Show, the Teddy Bear Tea at the San Juan Community Theatre on the 9th, and Lime Kiln Point State Park’s holiday lighthouse tours. For more information, call (360) 378-5240, or check out the calendar of events at www.sanjuanisland.org. The “Island Lights” holiday celebration is organized through the cooperative efforts of the Town of Friday Harbor and the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce.
