Idaho Dreaming

Everyone should have an Idaho option. The much-maligned state is home to some of the most spectacular scenery and adventurous travel in the country. I have this secret second life where I live with my family in a small log cabin on a vast cattle ranch along an isolated stretch of wilderness river in Idaho. That’s where I pretend to sit by the morning fire as I listen to the Seattle traffic report. Of course, I’m snowed in so I’m not going anywhere fast either; but it does provide a nice antidote to the urban option. This month I am off to Idaho for ten days kayaking the Lochsa and Middle Fork Salmon rivers with Tarkio Kayak Adventures. I’ll always come home, but I’ll never stop visiting Idaho.

Just back from Idaho and nine days of paddling with Land Heflin and crew from Tarkio Kayak Adventures and Middle Fork River Expeditions. I can’t believe how much I learn every day I paddle with Land and Tarkio. The trip was great, the canyon was fantastic. Chile next year? New Zealand? Bhutan? I am so glad someone turned me on to Tarkio. Check out their unbelievable list of trips around the world at their website linked above. It’s a pretty comprehensive to-do list. Land, Aren, Willie and MFRE, if you’re listening, thanks again for putting together such a great trip!
