Backdoor kitchen served up a great dinner for us last night,I haven’t been in a while but we will have to make it a regular dinner stop. We started out with the Westcott Bay oysters, which had spinach, garlic and a nice cream sauce all topped off with some nice toasted bread crumbs. My lamb was incredible and Edgar was amazed at how well his steak was cooked, and dessert it was the perfect end to the perfect evening. But just a tip definitely make reservations as they have limited seating.

DUCK SOUP— Duck Soup Inn closes in three weeks. I suggest everybody gets one more dinner in before they are closed for the winter… MMM YUMM… Check out their website www.ducksoupinn.com

I was lucky enough to be treated to a long weekend on the Island for my birthday. It was lovely and the combo of great food, fabulous area and island folks who were warm and full of grace made it…unforgetable. Two of the best meals were at Downrigger’s. One was a Corn Crusted Halibut Salad with Spicy Thai Vinagrette. It was divine!

Last night, after being at the fair all evening and having a great chicken gyro. We all decided to go to The Place for dessert. It was really enjoyable. I had only eaten once their before and we had skipped dessert. While the list of items is small they have something for everyone. They always have a chocolate pudding cake with toffee caramel topping, a caramel creme, and an ice cream sundae with different choices of topping. They also have daily specials, which included a strawberry shortcake last night that looked amazing. Dessert and coffee for under $10.00 per person. It was really fun, I highly recommend eating there.

Friday’s Crabhouse is open now and I love sitting up there in the summer looking over the harbor with a nice cold drink. You can get yourself a good basket of fish and chips, oysters, shrimp ceaser salad, cracked crab, salmon and a pitcher of nice cold, refreshing bear, they also have a bar area on the very tippy top, which I have never tried but the drinks look good.

McMillin’s Restaurant at Roche Harbor resort put on another great meal for us this weekend. Executive Chef Bill Shaw and Hostess Amy Sandwith helped us feel like celebrities, which is kind of what they do at McMillin’s. We loved the calamari appetizer and everyone went home deeply satisfied. Half our table ordered prime rib and spent the rest of evening looking like they won the lottery.

I went to The Place the other night with David and I had the BEST raviolo…it was a black bean ravioli with prawns and it had some sour cream and salsa on the side…YUM. I defintely reccomend it…the plates are a little bit small, but then there’s always room for dessert. Try the Creme Caramel, VERY tasty :)

We recently had a large group over at Friday’s and they were in the lobby a lot so I got to hear about a lot of thier experiences on the island, especially about thier dining experiences. A few of them went to The Place and loved it they said the staff was incredibly accomodating to the fact that they had a little girl with them, and even after she fell off her chair and started crying the staff was great and managed to stop her crying with a special treat (didn’t catch what the treat was)and they couldn’t stop raving about their meal to the rest of the party. Another couple had dinner at the Backdoor Kitchen and loved the fish special.

If you want a great milkshake, head over to Roy’s Drive-Thru. They have the best Milkshakes and frozen mocha’s in town and for the best price. :)

Market chef is a great stop for a quick and fresh lunch I love thier unique sandwiches and there is always something good in the deli case. A sandwhich, a bag of chips and a drink from market chef and your all set for a great scenic picnic on Young hill. I also love the Golden triangle good for a quick lunch and deliscious dinner.

My favorite lunch spot: The Backdoor Kitchen. Mmm…I just love the Vietnamese Rice Noodle bowl. It’s so nice to sit in the sun in their little garden courtyard enjoying the delicious food.

Chicken Gorgonzola at Downriggers, it is the greatest.

I have a tradition going on now, every Sunday I go out to breakfast with who ever I manage to recruit to Jimmys Paradise Cafe, located in the bowling alley. The “totally boring breakfast” always comes out perfect, and exactly the way I like it. Good stuff

I am a big fan of the flying burrito. They have some of the best mexican food on the island. I always get the chicken taco salad it is by far the best. The prices are great and the food always seems to be good. The only downside is that it is a ways up spring st. so its a bit of a walk.

Yea the Hungry Clam has great burgers and milk shakes. I am not a big fan of their fries though. Personally I always make sure to ask them not to put their house seasoning salt on mine. My favorite fries are at Jimmy’s Paradise Cafe in the bowling alley or I get JoJo’s at the Rocky Bay Cafe.

Another great meal in Friday Harbor at Golden Triangle.
As many fantastic restaurants as there are in Friday Harbor these days, one place I always love is Golden Triangle. The kids and I loved the Gai Yo appetizer tonight, Avon had time to come out and say Hi and we are so lucky to have such great Thai food in such a small town!
